Who can apply for a Deserve Mastercard?
Anyone can apply for a Deserve Mastercard. We have three Deserve Mastercards that cater to a wide range of customers and their needs.

What are the benefits of having a Deserve Mastercard?
All Deserve Mastercards get you started on the path to financial independence. The Deserve Mastercards build your credit history as you use them. You also enjoy no fees on foreign transactions, first late fee waiver, and fraud protection. Your card also comes with Mastercard Platinum Benefits like Car Collision Damage Waiver, Roadside Assistance, Travel Assistance Services, Price Protection, Extended Warranty and ID Theft Protection. Who is eligible for the Edu Mastercard?
College students with no credit history, limited credit history, or established credit history are all eligible to apply for the Edu Mastercard. No deposit or co-signer is required. If you’re an international student, we ask for a copy of your student visa, passport ID, school document (e.g. I-20 or DS 2019) and proof of a US bank account balance — we do not require an SSN. The Edu Mastercard is designed to help students build their credit history.
What are the benefits of the Edu Mastercard?
The Edu Mastercard comes with 1% unlimited cash back on all purchases, no annual fee, no fees on foreign transactions, first late fee waiver, and it also includes Mastercard Platinum Benefits. Additionally, if you sign up for Amazon Prime Student, Deserve will reimburse you for the $49 annual subscription fee (see terms of offer).
How does the Amazon Prime Student offer work?
Enroll in Amazon Prime Student using your Deserve Edu Mastercard as your payment method and we will reimburse you for subscription fees up to a life-time total of $49. When Amazon charges your Deserve Edu Mastercard, we will issue statement credits for $6.49 per month for the monthly payment plan or $49 for the annual payment plan.
To take advantage of this offer, you must still be a student. This offer can only be redeemed one time per customer. This offer is also valid for existing Amazon Prime Student subscriptions that were paid for with a SelfScore or Deserve Edu Mastercard for up to a $49 value, reimbursed in the form of a statement credit, provided that your account is in good standing when the charge(s) appear. How does the 1% cashback on all purchases work?
Cash back will be automatically applied to your account as a statement credit in $25 increments. Basically, spend $2,500 and we will give you $25 back.
Who is eligible for the Pro Mastercard?
The Pro Mastercard is designed for those who already have established credit and would like to continue building their credit history.
What are the benefits of the Pro Mastercard?
The Pro Mastercard features higher credit limits and you may earn 3% cash back on travel and entertainment and 2% cash back on restaurants for purchases up to $500 per billing cycle (combined.) On all other purchases, you may earn unlimited 1% cash back. For example, if in one billing cycle you spend $400 on flights, $100 at a restaurant and $1,100 on a laptop - you will earn a statement credit of $25. Any cash back will be automatically applied to your account as a statement credit. Additionally, it includes no fees on foreign transactions, first late fee waiver, and Mastercard Platinum Benefits.
Who is eligible for the Classic Mastercard?
The Classic Mastercard is a starter card designed for those who are new to credit and would like to build a credit history.
What are the benefits of the Classic Mastercard?
The Classic Mastercard does not require a deposit or co-signer, has no fees on foreign transactions, first late fee waiver, and it also includes Mastercard Platinum Benefits.
How do I pay for Classic Mastercard’s the annual fee?
The $39 annual fee will be automatically charged to the card once it has been activated and will appear in the monthly statement that contains the activation date.

How do I apply for a Deserve Mastercard?

What documents does Deserve require to apply for a credit card?
If you are an international student, we ask for a copy of your passport, US student visa, most recent I-20 or DS-2019 form, and latest U.S. bank account statements. If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (Green Card), including a student, we may request your SSN and latest US bank account statements.
How do I submit my documents?
Upon applying and if you’re eligible, you will receive an email with a link to a secure portal where you can upload PDF photos or scans of your documents. For security reasons, we do not accept documents through the mail or as email attachments.
How long does it take to get approved for a Deserve Mastercard?
After completing the application and submitting all required information and documents, we validate your application. The review and approval process will take up to 3 business days.
Why is my application pending?
If your application is shown as pending, it means we are still in the process of reviewing it. We will reach out to you once a decision has been made and/or if we need any additional information to finish processing your application.
Does Deserve report to credit bureaus?
Yes. Once your account is established, we will start reporting your monthly account history using the information provided on your application. If you are an international student studying in the US, be sure to call us to add an SSN if/when you receive one to ensure more accurate reporting on your credit report.
I am not a student or alumni, can I apply for a Deserve Mastercard?
Yes. We have the Deserve Pro and Deserve Classic Mastercards that may be suited for you. Please click on each card section above to see which card is right for you.
I am either a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card). Can I apply for a Deserve Mastercard?
Yes. We accept applications from international and domestic students and non-students who are US citizens or permanent residents.
Why was my application declined?
If your application was declined, please reference the notice you received for an explanation. If you have any additional questions about the decision, please call Deserve customer service at 1-800.316.7258.
Can Deserve Mastercards be used outside of the U.S.?
Yes, all Deserve Mastercards can be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted. Please call us at 1-800.316.7258 if you plan on using your Deserve Mastercard abroad or before you make a purchase in a foreign currency.
Do I need a Social Security Number (SSN) to apply for a Deserve Mastercard?
Depending on your current status, an SSN may or may not be required. Please follow the instructions within the application process.
Does Deserve hard pull my credit report when I apply for a Deserve Mastercard?
Yes, if available. A credit history is not required and we do not use your credit score (e.g. FICO) to make a credit decision. This information is only used for the purposes of identification and to assess the health of any other credit products you may currently have, which may affect our decision.

What’s the difference between a secured and unsecured credit card?
Secured credit card requires that you give the issuer a security deposit, which may equal the total credit limit. For example, to get a $500 secured credit card, you may have to deposit $500 as security for the account, which you cannot use or access while the account is open. Alternatively, unsecured credit cards do not require any security deposit to open or use the credit card.
Are the Deserve Mastercards secured or unsecured?
All Deserve Mastercards are unsecured and do not require a security deposit.
What will my credit limit be?
Your initial credit limit will be assigned at the time of your approval.
What is the APR for a Deserve Mastercard?
The Annual Percentage Rate for purchases made on your Deserve Mastercard varies depending on the type of Mastercard you have. Please refer to the credit card page and/or your Cardholder Agreement for more details.
Is there an annual fee?
There is no annual fee for the Edu and Pro Mastercards. The Classic Mastercard has a $39 annual fee.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. All of the fees are tied to specific events and are outlined for your review in the Cardholder Agreement.
Am I required to spend a minimum amount each month to use my card?
No, there is no minimum monthly spend required of Deserve Mastercard holders.
When will I receive any statement credits I earned?
You can earn statement credits through the following method
- Refer-a-friend: You must have an active card, and you will receive the referral bonus within 1-2 billing cycles after approval of the referred card.
When will I receive my card?
Upon approval, you will receive your card in approximately 10-15 business days.
Why haven’t I received my card yet?
If you received an email confirmation that your card has been shipped and it has been more than fifteen (15) business days, please contact our customer support team at 1-800.316.7258 so that we may assist you further.
How do I make a payment?
You can make one-time payments online, by phone, or by mail. You may also schedule automatic payments through your Deserve dashboard.
What is the minimum that I need to pay for this billing cycle?
Minimum payment information will be displayed on your Deserve dashboard and your monthly statement.
How can I increase my credit limit?
While we do not accept requests for credit limit increases, we will automatically apply an increase once you meet our internal requirements. Generally, this may include using your card regularly, making on-time payments, and using your card wisely by staying under the credit limit. When you become eligible for a credit limit increase, we will notify you by email with your new limit.
Can I take a cash advance with my Deserve Mastercard?
No. At this time, your Deserve Mastercard does not offer this feature.
I just got my Social Security Number! How do I add it to my existing Deserve account?
Congratulations on making this big step towards your future in the U.S.! Yes, you should definitely add your SSN as soon as it’s available. This helps credit bureaus better verify your identity and can improve the quality and accuracy of the information they report on your behalf. To add a SSN to an existing Deserve account, please call us at 1-800.316.7258. Have your social security card available when you call.
Can I add an authorized user to my account?
At this time we do not allow for authorized users to be added to your account.
How can I dispute a transaction?
Please call the number on the back of your card to dispute a transaction on your account that you believe to be fraudulent.
My card was lost/stolen! How do I get a replacement card?
Please call us at 1-800.316.7258 to report your card as lost or stolen to our customer service representatives and we will issue you a replacement card.
How do I get an additional copy of a past statement?
All transaction information relating to your account can be found in your online account dashboard. If you would like a physical copy of your past statement sent to you via mail, please call the number on the back of your card to request. A statement copy fee may apply.
If I’m a student, do you automatically close my card when I graduate?
No. You’re free to keep using your card for purchases anywhere Mastercard is accepted for as long as you like. Remember, even if you get another credit card, keeping your Deserve Mastercard open increases your available credit. If you do move out of the country, please call the number on the back of your card to let us know and make sure you’ve paid off your balance and cancelled any automatic billings.
Online Account Information
Can I manage my Deserve Mastercard online?
Yes. You can create an online account for your credit card that will allow you to manage your account and settings.
How do I view my current outstanding balance?
This information is displayed in your dashboard after logging in. Alternatively, you may call our customer service team.
When will my transactions show up on my online account history?
Your transactions are updated at least every business day. Pending transactions may also be listed, which may impact your total available credit limit. You can also call the number on the back of your card for up-to-date account information.
How do I change my personal information (address, phone number, etc.)?
You can update your personal information in the Profile section of your Deserve dashboard or you may call us at 1-800.316.7258.
What does Deserve do with the information I provide (i.e. banking details, profile, etc.)?
