Friends, we just got some big news that’s too important to wait…

The Department of Homeland Security officially enhanced and expanded the OPT work program for international students! Here’s what’s changed:

  • F-1 STEM OPT Extention — Students on F-1 visas studying science, technology, engineering, and math can extend their 12 month OPT period by an additional 24 months.
  • Increased oversight of OPT — Companies hosting OPT students will have increased responsibility to create formal training programs.
  • “Cap-Gap” Relief — Students on F-1 visas are now allowed to work and study in the period between their H1-B application and decision.

Congratulations, to you and everyone in the international student community, on this well-deserved victory and important step forward.
